Principal's Message

Principal's Welcome

Welcome to Roosevelt High School, the Home of the Mighty Rough Riders. We are excited to welcome students for the 2023-2024 school year.

We are proud of our tradition of excellence since our doors opened to students in 1923, and I am honored to continue this year as the Principal of Roosevelt as we celebrate the centennial of our founding.

We are close to finishing a $200 million Comprehensive Modernization project with a brand new Gymnasium, classroom building, administration building, and performing arts center. We will soon have new athletic fields as well, including football/soccer/track and baseball/softball.

PRINCIPAL BEN GERTNER
I welcome all families to come visit and see for yourself why Roosevelt is the school of choice for Boyle Heights.

Our staff is committed to student achievement in all areas: academics, athletics and extracurricular activities. We are a community school that believes in serving our students and their families.

At Roosevelt, we continue to push for excellence and have seen gains in graduation rates, reading achievement, college admissions, and other key measures of student achievement.

As a community school, we have a host of partners who collaborate to bring resources for students to support college access, academic achievement and wellness.

Roosevelt High School is a school of tradition and a school for the future. Our students learn with technology and engage in hands-on, real-world projects. As a Linked Learning school, every student has the opportunity to work with industry professionals, learning about potential careers while preparing for post-secondary education.

We have pioneered Restorative Practices that focus on the three values: respect, relationships and responsibility. We believe in building community to support all students and to acknowledge and recognize growth.

Mission

Roosevelt High School is a supportive community fostering student development. At the heart of everything we do is the conviction that behind every data point is a student we care about and a relationship that we can build on to support student growth.

We employ strategies that support independent learning and critical thinking. We value collaborative, project-based teaching and learning as a means for students to develop the skills that will allow them to positively impact the community and prepare for college and career success.

Vision

Roosevelt High School’s vision is to provide our students, in partnership with our families and community, with an excellent education in a supportive, inclusive environment, so they develop the skills, knowledge, and resilience to succeed and make positive change in the world.

If you are considering which high school is right for your child, I encourage you to contact our Community Outreach Director, Jorge Lopez, to schedule a campus tour. He can be reached at [email protected].

I look forward to a bright future for Roosevelt High School, the school where tradition and pride meet innovation and excellence.
